Jakarta, 18 May 2022 – Erajaya Peduli Bangsa Foundation, a non-profit organization from PT Erajaya Swasembada Tbk, has successfully implemented a program to utilize organic waste into eco-enzymes, one of the manifestations of the Erajaya Peduli LENTERA pillar, namely Lentera Hijau and completed a pilot project launched in December 2021. This program manages and processing of vegetable and fruit waste through a fermentation process, to make green products that have many benefits and are environmentally friendly. In collaboration with the Bogor Environmental and Forestry Education and Training Center (BDLHK), a pilot project that started in November 2021 has now yielded results. During the period December 2021 - April 2022, 200 litres of eco-enzyme were produced from the processing of kitchen waste by the assisted farmer groups in the Wana Erajaya area, Rumpin, Bogor Regency.
Jimmy Perangin Angin, Chief Human Capital, Legal dan CSR said, “Erajaya Peduli Bangsa Foundation together with BDLHK Bogor see the potential to introduce and develop this eco-enzyme program to reduce the volume of organic waste disposed of by the community to the Final Disposal Site (TPA). This is part of the commitment of the Erajaya Peduli Bangsa Foundation to always be proactive in sustainable environmental-friendly activities.”
Eco-enzyme is an effort to utilize waste that is simple and quite easy to practice within the household or community. In addition, eco-enzyme is also called a multipurpose liquid because it can be used as a floor cleaner, vegetable and fruit cleaner, water purifier, air freshener, insect repellent and plant fertilizer. The eco-enzyme formulation was developed by Dr Rosukon Poompanvong, founder of the Thai Organic Agriculture Association which was later adopted by many communities/environmentalists, including in Indonesia.
The results of this program are not only used for plant nutrition in agricultural activities. But gradually, people can use it as a water purifier, and cleaning liquid for household purposes so that little by little they can reduce the use of chemical-based products. Not only providing facilities and infrastructure for sustainable eco-enzyme production, Erajaya Peduli Bangsa Foundation and BDLHK Bogor also provide education related to eco-enzymes for community groups/communities visiting the Rumpin Eco Edu Forest area.
