Jakarta, 15 April 2020 -- PT Jagad Utama Lestari (PT JUL), part of the Erajaya group of companies, announced today, jointly with JUUL Labs, that from 13 April 2020, they will resume new sales orders of JUUL devices and JUULpods to select authorized retailers. This follows a [two month] review of the sales and commercial operations to ensure adherence to the companies’ strict guidelines around retailer operations and underage use prevention.
From 13 April 2020, authorized select retail partners in modern trade channels such as convenience stores, mini markets, supermarkets, and Duty Free will be able to resume ordering JUUL devices and JUULpods. Similarly, JUUL stores in CITOS and Plaza Indonesia, as well as www.JUUL.id will now be able to place new orders and continue providing adult smokers in Indonesia with an alternative to combustible cigarettes to help them transition away from smoking.
PT JUL shares the same ambition as JUUL Labs to reset the vapor category in Indonesia, through enforcing strict policies to prevent underage use of vapor products and conducting ongoing training and auditing of retail partners to maximize adherence.
“At PT JUL, we share the same commitment as JUUL Labs in avoiding underage use and appeal of JUUL products in Indonesia. It is our aim to be industry-leading in terms of underage use prevention in the market and I look forward to working with our retail partners to continue making JUUL products available to adult smokers in Indonesia, in order to help them transition away from combustible cigarettes,” said Sim Chee Ping, Director, PT JUL.
The review process included updating retailer policies across the aforementioned partners, as well as a comprehensive training with them on JUUL Labs’ Underage Use Prevention (UUP) program with their product specialists, merchandisers, agency partners and select authorized retail partners.
Going forward, JUUL Labs Indonesia, in close collaboration with PT JUL, will be conducting a review of vape store retail partners and other independent partner retailers. JUUL Labs will also be conducting regular store-level training programs for all retail partners on an ongoing basis, in compliance with local government measures on COVID-19.
“Globally we are committed to transition the world’s billion adult smokers away from combustible cigarettes, eliminate their use, and combat underage usage of our products. Together with the strong support of our partner, PT JUL, we have undertaken a thorough review of our sales and commercial operations in Indonesia. We are grateful for the commitment shown by PT JUL and all our authorized partners and retailers through the review and we will continue to work together to reinforce adherence to these critical underage use prevention measures on an ongoing basis,” said Arun Hozack, President, Asia Pacific, JUUL Labs.
The decision to enforce stricter underage use prevention measures is welcomed by retail partners, one of which is Alfamart, the largest retail partner of PT JUL. Alfamart is supportive of the efforts to make JUUL products only available for adult smokers over 18-years of age and shares the commitment to increase the adherence to JUUL Labs’ age gating requirements including strict ID checks to ensure all customers are over the required age of 18 to purchase JUUL products.
