erafone is taking proactive steps in electronic waste (e-waste) management by launching the "Jaga Bumi" initiative. Through this program, erafone is committed to providing e-waste collection facilities across Indonesia. The electronic waste collected at various erafone drop box locations will be recycled through environmentally friendly processes. The Jaga Bumi movement offers a safe solution for individuals looking to dispose of their electronic devices responsibly.
Rezza Lazuardi Pramata, Head of CSR at Erajaya Group, explained that erafone is not working alone in the e-waste recycling effort. "We have appointed competent partners to manage electronic waste. They will report back on the progress of the recycling efforts," he stated during the press conference for the Jaga Bumi initiative titled "Awareness of Electronic Waste," held in Jakarta on Thursday, February 27.
Initially, there will be 10 drop boxes at 10 erafone stores located throughout DKI Jakarta. Throughout this year, erafone plans to establish approximately 25 to 50 drop boxes across its five operational regions.
erafone's serious attention to the e-waste issue through Jaga Bumi aims to raise awareness and foster a new era of electronic waste management. This type of waste poses significant environmental risks if not managed properly, as it contains hazardous materials such as lead and mercury. According to data from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), cited by Waste4Change, Indonesia generates 2 million tons of electronic waste annually, but only about 17.4% is managed effectively through official recycling systems.
"Through erafone's Jaga Bumi initiative, we hope to enhance public awareness and cultivate more responsible electronic consumption habits for a more sustainable future," Rezza added.
erafone's commitment to contributing to electronic waste management is part of its sustainability strategy and environmental responsibility within the framework of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance). As the use of electronic devices increases, so does the waste generated, necessitating systematic and responsible solutions.
Jaga Bumi is a long-term initiative from erafone, and its sustainability clearly requires the involvement of various stakeholders, including the community, government, and other relevant parties.
Actor and Eco Warrior Ramon Y. Tungka, who also attended the Jaga Bumi press conference, praised erafone's innovation. "I see the initiative taken by erafone through Jaga Bumi as a breakthrough. As a distributor of electronic products, erafone is capable of presenting innovation and solutions. This is a step that deserves our appreciation, and I will continue to support it," he remarked.
